Kathakali is a famous classical dance form of Kerala, it has its roots in the state of Kerala. In the 17th century, the Kottarakkara king invented Ramanattam, Kathakali is an evolved form of Ramanattam. VK Narayan Menon, Kalamadalam Gopi, Udayashankar, Shanta Rao, Mrinalini Sarabhai, Kumaran Nair etc. are famous Kathakali dancers. Let us tell you that Kathakali originated in the second half of the 17th century. Scholars are of the opinion that Kathakali is a developed form of 'Ramanattam' composed by Kottarakkara Tampuran. Over a period of time, the form of Kathakali was transformed due to the combination and influence of many theatrical arts. With the passage of time, all the areas of Kathakali's costumes, music, playing, acting, rituals etc. have changed. / कथकली केरल का प्रसिद्ध शास्त्रीय नृत्य है, इसकी जड़ें केरल राज्य में हैं। 17वीं शताब्दी में कोट्टारक्करा राजा ने रामनाट्टम का आविष्कार किया, रामनाट्टम का विकसित रूप ही कथकली है। वीके नारायण मेनन, कलामडलम गोपी, उदयशंकर, शांताराव, मृणालिनी साराभाई, कुमारन नायर आदि प्रसिद्ध कथकली नृतक हैं। बतादें कि कथकली का प्रादुर्भाव 17 वीं शताब्दी के उत्तरार्द्ध में हुआ था। विद्वानों का मत है कि कोट्टारक्करा तंपुरान द्वारा रचे गये 'रामनाट्टम' का विकसित रूप ही कथकली है। कालान्तर में अनेक नाट्य कलाओं के संयोग और प्रभाव से कथकली का स्वरूप संवरता गया। समय के अनुसार कथकली की वेशभूषा, संगीत, वादन, अभिनय-रीति, अनुष्ठान आदि सभी क्षेत्र परिवर्तित हुए हैं।
