Bareilly district, located in the largest state of India, Uttar Pradesh, is located in the middle of the national highway between the national capital Delhi and Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow. Since ancient times, it has been colloquially named as Bans Bareilly and now it is known as Bareilly. The city of this district is metropolitan. It is the eighth largest metropolis in Uttar Pradesh and the 50th largest city in India. Bareilly is a district adjacent to the state of Uttarakhand. Its Baheri tehsil is near the border of Udham Singh Nagar of Uttarakhand. Situated on the banks of river Ramganga, this city has been the capital headquarters of ancient Rohilkhand. Due to being the state-status Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University of Bareilly, the jurisdiction of this university for higher education is extended to the nine districts of Bareilly and Moradabad division, those districts were part of Rohilkhand during the first freedom struggle. In such a situation, even today Bareilly is considered as the headquarters of Rohilkhand. In such a situation, this city also has historical importance. Bareilly has a special place due to its religious importance. Bareilly is also called Nath city due to being covered with ancient temples of Nath sect. The world famous Dargah Aala Hazrat is established in the city, which is the main center of faith of Sunni Barelvi Muslims. Hence Bareilly is also called "Bareilly Sharif"/Shahar-e-Ala Hazrat. Khwaja Qutb is also here. And Khanqah Niazia is also in this city. The famous author of Radheshyam Ramayana, Pandit Radheshyam Sharma, the narrator belonged to this city. Math Tulsi Sthal is also in this city. Bareilly College, which is one of the ancient and prominent colleges of the country and the state, also has historical importance. The country's Indian Veterinary Research Institute and the Indian Bird Research Institute are set up on large campuses at Izzatnagar in the city. Famous Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra and screen artist Disha Patni are from Bareilly. Literary writer Nirankar Dev Sevak, who wrote children's poetry like Chanda Mama Door Ke, was also from Bareilly. Bareilly is the workplace of Chandrakant Tripathi, the top pillar of journalism. At present, Santosh Gangwar is the Minister of State for Labor in the Union Cabinet as independent charge from Bareilly. In the cabinet cabinet of Uttar Pradesh government, Bareilly Cantt MLA Rajesh Agrawal is representing Bareilly as Finance Minister (as of August 2019) and Amla MLA Dharampal Singh as Irrigation Minister. /

भारत के सबसे बड़े राज्य उत्तर प्रदेश में स्थित बरेली जनपद राष्ट्रीय राजधानी दिल्ली और उत्तर प्रदेश की राजधानी लखनऊ तक के राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग के बीचों-बीच स्थित है। प्राचीन काल से इसे बोलचाल में बांस बरेली का नाम दिया जाता रहा और अब यह बरेली के नाम से ही पहचाना जाता है। इस जनपद का शहर महानगरीय है। यह उत्तर प्रदेश में आठवां सबसे बड़ा महानगर और भारत का ५०वां सबसे बड़ा शहर है। बरेली उत्तराखंड राज्य से सटा जनपद है। इसकी बहेड़ी तहसील उत्तराखंड के ऊधमसिंह नगर की सीमा के निकट है।रामगंगा नदी के तट पर बसा यह शहर प्राचीन रुहेलखंड का राजधानी मुख्यालय रहा है। बरेली का राज्य दर्जा प्राप्त महात्मा ज्योतिबा फूले रुहेलखंड विश्विद्यालय होने की वजह से उच्च शिक्षा के लिए इस विश्वविद्यालय का अधिकार क्षेत्र बरेली और मुरादाबाद मंडल के जिन नौ जिलों तक विस्तारित है, वे जिले ही प्रथम स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के दौर में रुहेलखंड का हिस्सा रहे। ऐसे में आज भी बरेली को रुहेलखंड का मुख्यालय ही माना जाता है।महाभारत काल में बरेली जनपद की तहसील आंवला का हिस्सा पांचाल क्षेत्र हुआ करता था। ऐसे में इस शहर का ऐतिहासिक महत्व भी है। धार्मिक महत्व के चलते बरेली का खास स्थान है। नाथ सम्प्रदाय के प्राचीन मंदिरों से आच्छादित होने के कारण बरेली को नाथ नगरी भी कहा जाता है। शहर में विश्व प्रसिद्ध दरगाह आला हजरत स्थापित है,जो सुन्नी बरेलवी मुसलमानों की आस्था का प्रमुख केंद्र है।इसलिए बरेली को "बरेली शरीफ"/शहर ए आला हज़रत भी कहते हैं।ख्वाजा क़ुतुब भी यहीँ है। और खानकाह नियाजिया भी इसी शहर में है। राधेश्याम रामायण के प्रसिद्ध रचयिता पंडित राधेश्याम शर्मा कथावाचक इसी शहर के थे। मठ तुलसी स्थल भी इसी शहर में है। देश-प्रदेश के प्राचीन और प्रमुख महाविद्यालयों में शुमार बरेली कॉलेज का भी ऐतिहासिक महत्व है। देश के भारतीय पशु चिकित्सा अनुसंधान संस्थान और भारतीय पक्षी अनुसंधान संस्थान इस शहर के इज्जतनगर में बड़े कैंपस में स्थापित हैं। बॉलीवुड फिल्मों की मशहूर अभिनेत्री प्रियंका चौपड़ा और पर्दे की कलाकर दिशा पाटनी बरेली से ही हैं।चंदा मामा दूर के...जैसी बाल कविता के रचयिता साहित्यकार निरंकार देव सेवक भी बरेली के ही थे। बरेली पत्रकारिता के शीर्ष स्तम्भ चन्द्रकान्त त्रिपाठी की कर्मस्थली है। वर्तमान में बरेली से केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल में संतोष गंगवार श्रम राज्य मंत्री स्वतन्त्र प्रभार के रूप में हैं। उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार के कैबिनेट मंत्रिमंडल में बरेली कैंट के विधायक राजेश अग्रवाल वित्त मंत्री(अगस्त2019तक) और आंवला से विधायक धर्मपाल सिंह सिंचाई मंत्री के रूप में बरेली का प्रतिनिधित्व कर रहे हैं।
