The Eskimo people are found in a thin strip from Greenland around the north polar region to Alaska in the west and across the Bering Strait to the north-eastern Chukchi Peninsula region of Siberia. The annual average temperature remains below 0 degree Celsius. About one million Eskimos have lived in the harsh climate for the last ten thousand years. / उत्तरी ध्रुवीय क्षेत्र के चारो ओर ग्रीनलैण्ड से लेकर पश्चिम में अलास्का और बेरिंग जलडमरु मध्य के पार साइबेरिया के उत्तरी-पूर्वी चुकची प्रायद्वीप क्षेत्र तक एक पतली पट्टी में एस्किमो लोगो का निवास पाया जाता हैं। वार्षीक औसत तापमान 0 डीग्री सैल्शियस से भी नीचे रहता है। कठोर जलवायु में लगभग 10 लाख एस्किमों विगत दस हजार वर्षों से रह हैं।
Due to the changing natural charges of the seasons, they do not live in permanent homes, but also keep changing their places of residence with time. In the cold season, they build their houses with snowflakes called igloos. The igloo has a semi-domed shape. A tunnel is made to enter it, due to which the Eskimos have to crawl to enter and exit the house. It has a small hole at the top for breathing. It is made of homemade ice but it is believed that it is very hot from inside. To make it hotter, sometimes a small fire is also lit in it. / मौसम के बदलते कुदरती वसूलों के कारण से स्थायी घरों में नहीं रहते बल्कि वक़्त के साथ अपने निवास स्थानों को भी बदलते रहते हैं. ठंडी के मौसम में ये अपना मकान बर्फ के टुकड़ों से बनाते हैं जिन्हें इग्लू कहा जाता है. इग्लू की बनावट अर्ध गुम्बदाकार होती है. इसमें प्रवेश करने के लिए एक सुरंग नुमा रास्ता बनाया जाता है जिसके कारण घर के अन्दर प्रवेश करने और बाहर आने के लिए एस्किमो को रेंग कर जाना आना पड़ता है. साँस लेने के लिए इसमें ऊपर की तरफ एक छोटा छिद्र होता है.यह घर बने बर्फ के होते हैं मगर माना जाता है की अंदर से यह बहुत ही ज्यादा गर्म होते हैं. इसे और गर्म करने के लिए कई बार इसमें हलकी सी आग भी जलाई जाती है.
