According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) website, Indian banknotes are printed in 17 languages out of which, English and Hindi are written on the front and 15 languages are printed on the back and hence, making the total of 17. All of these languages take precedence over notes in these circumstances. / भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक (RBI) की वेबसाइट के अनुसार, भारतीय बैंक नोट 17 भाषाओं में मुद्रित होते हैं, जिनमें से सामने की तरफ अंग्रेजी और हिंदी लिखी होती है और पीछे की तरफ 15 भाषाएँ छपी होती हैं, इस प्रकार कुल मिलाकर 17 भाषाएँ होती हैं। भारतीय संविधान में किसी भी भाषा को राष्ट्रीय दर्जा नहीं दिया गया है और 22 भाषाएँ बोली जाती हैं। इन परिस्थितियों में इन सभी भाषाओं को नोट्स पर प्राथमिकता दी जाती है।
