The Indian response against the commission was immediate and nearly unanimous. What angered the Indians most was the exclusion of Indians from the commission and the basic notion behind the exclusion that foreigners would discuss and decide upon India’s fitness for self-government. This notion was seen as a violation of the principle of self-determination and a deliberate insult to the self-respect of Indians. /आयोग के विरुद्ध भारतीय प्रतिक्रिया तत्काल और लगभग सर्वसम्मत थी। भारतीयों को सबसे अधिक गुस्सा इस बात पर था कि आयोग से भारतीयों को बाहर रखा गया था और इस बहिष्कार के पीछे मूल धारणा यह थी कि विदेशी स्वशासन के लिए भारत की उपयुक्तता पर चर्चा करेंगे और निर्णय लेंगे। इस धारणा को आत्मनिर्णय के सिद्धांत के उल्लंघन और भारतीयों के आत्मसम्मान के जानबूझकर अपमान के रूप में देखा गया।
