Iltutmish was a slave of Qutb-ud-din Aibak. He was also his son-in law and the governor of Badaun. In AD 1211, he deposed aram Shah, the successor of Qutb-ud-din and become king himself. Iltutmish made Delhi as his capital on the place of Lahore.इल्तुतमिश कुतुबुद्दीन ऐबक का गुलाम था। वह उनके दामाद और बदायूँ के गवर्नर भी थे। 1211 ई. में उसने कुतुबुद्दीन के उत्तराधिकारी आराम शाह को पदच्युत कर दिया और स्वयं राजा बन गया। इल्तुतमिश ने लाहौर के स्थान पर दिल्ली को अपनी राजधानी बनाया।
