आधुनिक भारत में जनगणना की शुरुआत के संबंध में उन्होंने बताया कि वर्ष 1872 में पहली जनगणना हुई। लेकिन प्रथम समकालीन जनगणना की शुरुआत 1881 में मानी गई। वहीं स्वतंत्र भारत में वर्ष 1951 में पहली जनगणना हुई। प्रत्येक दस वर्ष के बाद भारत में जनगणना होती है। इसके बाद निदेशालय की अधिकारियों ने मध्यप्रदेश की जनगणना के संबंध में अनेक आंकड़े प्रस्तुत किए। / Regarding the beginning of census in modern India, he told that in the year 1872 the first census took place.
