In 1956, during the reorganization of Indian states, the Lakshadweep islands were organized into a separate union territory for administrative purposes. The name of this Union Territory was changed to Lakshadweep with effect from November 1, 1973. / 1956 में, भारतीय राज्यों के पुनर्गठन के दौरान, लक्षद्वीप द्वीपों को प्रशासनिक उद्देश्यों के लिए एक अलग केंद्र शासित प्रदेश में संगठित किया गया था। 1 नवंबर 1973 से इस केंद्र शासित प्रदेश का नाम बदलकर लक्षद्वीप कर दिया गया।
