The water located in the holes and crevices of rocks below the surface is called underground water. The topographies formed from these are called karst topographies, which are named after the topography of the limestone region of the Adriatic coast of Yugoslavia.

The erosional and depositional work of underground water is not as rapid and important as the work of river, glacier, ocean waves or wind. / धरातल के नीचे चट्‌टानों के छिद्रों और दरारों में स्थित जल को भूमिगत जल कहते हैं । इनसे बनी स्थलाकृतियों को कार्स्ट स्थलाकृतियाँ कहते हैं, जो यूगोस्लाविया के एड्रियाटिक तट के चूना-पत्थर क्षेत्र की स्थलाकृतियों के नाम के आधार पर रखा गया है ।

भूमिगत जल का अपरदनात्मक व निक्षेपणात्मक कार्य नदी, हिमानी, सागरीय लहरों अथवा पवन के कार्यों जितना तीव्र व महत्वपूर्ण नहीं होता ।
