It is a colorless, flammable gas with a slightly sweet musky odor. / एथिलीन (Ethylene ; (IUPAC नाम: एथीन/ethene) एक हाइड्रोकार्बन है जिसका अणुसूत्र C2H4 or H2C=CH2 है। यह एक रंगहीन, ज्वलनशील गैस है जिसकी गंध हल्की मीठी कस्तूरी होती है। Ethylene is widely used in chemical industries. Its global production in 2006 was more than 109 million tons, more than any other organic compound. Ethylene is also an important natural plant hormone used in early ripening of fruits. Hydration of ethylene gives ethyl alcohol. / रासायनिक उद्योगों में एथिलीन का बहुतायत में उपयोग होता है। २००६ में इसका वैश्विक उत्पादन 109 मिलियन टन से भी अधिक था जो किसी अन्य कार्बनिक यौगिक से अधिक है। एथिलीन एक महत्वपूर्ण प्राकृतिक पादप हार्मोन भी है जिसका उपयोग फलों को जल्दी पकाने में किया जाता है।एथिलीन का जलयोजन करने पर एथिल अल्कोहल मिलता है। Ethylene is the simplest alkene. It is an important industrial chemical. It is used extensively to make a plastic called polythene. / इथिलीन एक सरलतम अल्कीन है। यह एक असंतृप्त हाइड्रोकार्बन है जिसमें एक कार्बन-कार्बन द्वि-बन्ध पाया जाता है। इथिलीन का संरचना सूत्र चित्र में दिखाया गया है। यह एक प्राकृतिक गैस है तथा कोल गैस में पाई जाती है। यह एक महत्वपूर्ण औद्योगिक रसायन है। इसका उपयोग बड़े पैमाने पर पालीथीन नामक प्लास्टिक बनाने के लिए किया जाता है।
