Chola dynasty was a Tamil dynasty which was one of the longest-ruling dynasties in southern India. The earliest datable references to this Tamil dynasty are in inscriptions from the 3rd century BC left by Asoka, the dynasty continued to govern over varying territory until the 13th century AD. The heartland of the Cholas was the fertile valley of the Kaveri River, but they ruled a significantly larger area at the height of their power from the later half of the 9th century till the beginning of the 13th century. /चोल वंश एक तमिल राजवंश था जो दक्षिण भारत में सबसे लंबे समय तक शासन करने वाले राजवंशों में से एक था। इस तमिल राजवंश के सबसे पुराने संदर्भ अशोक द्वारा छोड़े गए तीसरी शताब्दी ईसा पूर्व के शिलालेखों में हैं, राजवंश 13 वीं शताब्दी ईस्वी तक अलग-अलग क्षेत्रों पर शासन करता रहा। चोलों का गढ़ कावेरी नदी की उपजाऊ घाटी थी, लेकिन उन्होंने ९वीं शताब्दी के उत्तरार्ध से १३वीं शताब्दी की शुरुआत तक अपनी शक्ति की ऊंचाई पर काफी बड़े क्षेत्र पर शासन किया।
