Nalanda was an ancient center of higher learning in Bihar which was a religious center of learning from the fifth or sixth century CE to 1197 CE. At its peak, the university attracted scholars and students from as far away as Tibet, China, Greece, and Persia. Nalanda was ransacked and destroyed by an army under Bakhtiyar Khilji in 1193. / नालंदा बिहार में उच्च शिक्षा का एक प्राचीन केंद्र था जो पांचवीं या छठी शताब्दी सीई से 1197 सीई तक शिक्षा का धार्मिक केंद्र था। अपने चरम पर, विश्वविद्यालय ने तिब्बत, चीन, ग्रीस और फारस जैसे दूर से विद्वानों और छात्रों को आकर्षित किया। नालंदा को 1193 में बख्तियार खिलजी के नेतृत्व में एक सेना ने लूटा और नष्ट कर दिया था।
