Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a viral respiratory disease caused by a SARS-associated coronavirus. It was first identified at the end of February 2003 during an outbreak that emerged in China and spread to 4 other countries. WHO coordinated the international investigation with the assistance of the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) and worked closely with health authorities in affected countries to provide epidemiological, clinical and logistical support and to bring the outbreak under control. / सीवियर एक्यूट रेस्पिरेटरी सिंड्रोम (SARS) एक वायरल श्वसन रोग है जो SARS से जुड़े कोरोनावायरस के कारण होता है। इसे पहली बार फरवरी 2003 के अंत में चीन में फैलने वाले प्रकोप के दौरान पहचाना गया और 4 अन्य देशों में फैल गया। डब्ल्यूएचओ ने ग्लोबल आउटब्रेक अलर्ट एंड रिस्पांस नेटवर्क (GOARN) की सहायता से अंतर्राष्ट्रीय जांच का समन्वय किया और महामारी विज्ञान, नैदानिक और रसद सहायता प्रदान करने और प्रकोप को नियंत्रण में लाने के लिए प्रभावित देशों में स्वास्थ्य अधिकारियों के साथ मिलकर काम किया।
