Sahariya tribe is found in Bhind, Morena, Gwalior and Shivpuri of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh. The word 'Sahariya' is derived from the Parsi word 'Sahar', which means 'forest'. The people of this caste live in the forest. The family of these people is patriarchal. The Government of India has considered the Sahariya tribe as a primitive tribe. The Sahariya people trace their origin to the Bhils. It is the only primitive tribe of Rajasthan. The main occupation of the people of this caste is collecting tubers, fruits and wood. In addition, these people also hunt wild animals. The people of Sahariya tribe worship Hindu deities. Among the dances of these people, 'Lahki', 'Duldul Ghodi', Sarhul, Nrityaragani and Tejaji's story folk singing style are prominent. Under the marriage system, the practice of co-migration, service and purchase marriage is prevalent in this caste. The circulation of currency is very less in the Sahariya tribe. These people adopt the practice of barter. / सहरिया जनजाति राजस्थान, मध्य प्रदेश के भिंड, मुरैना, ग्वालियर और शिवपुरी में पायी जाती है। 'सहरिया' शब्द पारसी के 'सहर' शब्द से बना है, जिसका अर्थ होता है- 'जंगल'। इस जाति के लोग जंगल में निवास करते हैं। इन लोगों का परिवार पितृसत्तात्मक होता है। भारत सरकार ने सहरिया जनजाति को आदिम जनजाति माना है। सहरिया लोग अपनी उत्पत्ति भीलों से मानते हैं। ये राजस्थान की एकमात्र आदिम जनजाति है। इस जाति के लोगों का मुख्य व्यवसाय कंदमूल, फल एवं लकड़ियाँ एकत्रित करना है। साथ ही ये लोग जंगली जानवरों का शिकार भी करते हैं। सहरिया जनजाति के लोग हिन्दू देवी-देवताओं की पूजा करते हैं। इन लोगों के नृत्यों में 'लहकी', 'दुलदुल घोड़ी', सरहुल, नृत्यरागनि एवं तेजाजी की कथा लोक गायन शैली आदि प्रमुख हैं। विवाह पद्धति के अंतर्गत इस जाति में सहपलायन, सेवा एवं क्रय विवाह की प्रथा प्रचलित है। सहरिया जनजाति में मुद्रा का प्रचलन बहुत कम होता है। ये लोग वस्तु विनिमय की प्रथा को अपनाते हैं।
